Jane was raised in Mission Hills Kansas. She graduated high school from Sunset Hills School for Girls. Jane attended Smith University, Northwestern University, and graduated from Kansas University with a degree in Public Speaking.
Jane was united in marriage to Robert Wilson Weaver on May 4, 1944 in San Luis Obispo California. Jane and Bob were together for two weeks before Bob was shipped overseas in the Pacific Theater of WWII. She returned to Kansas City and then attended Smith University and Northwestern University.
After Bob was discharged from the Army, they moved to Houston and later to Dallas Texas. Jane’s first child, Thomas Benson was born in Dallas in 1947. In 1952 she moved to Prairie Village Kansas. Here Nancy Jane was born in 1957 and Katherine was born in 1961.
Jane was an active member of the Shawnee Mission Garden Club and helped compile the Potpourri Cookbook. She also made many holiday keepsakes that have been passed on to her children. Jane also raised English Pointer puppies. A favorite dog was Little Nancy, Jane helped her deliver several litters of puppies. From one of her litters came Sis who was another favorite dog of Jane’s.
Jane and Bob often entertained family and friends. Jane would have people over to the house for parties and she enjoyed going out for social gatherings.
Holidays and Birthdays were special times for Jane as she began many family traditions. She carried these traditions on throughout her life. Meals were always well planned out and always home cooked. Jane made sure that every celebration was extra special by having a themed cake or a special dish. Every holiday was spent with family members. Jane would host the Easter celebration, her brother Harry had the Fourth of July, and brother Don had the Christmas celebration at his house.
While living in Kansas City, a lasting tradition of going to Bay Lake Minnesota began. Jane and Bob started going there to fish with Cousin Buck. They both fell in love with the lake and its beauty. Jane would fish right along side of Bob. When the children came along the trip changed into a summer vacation during the middle two weeks of July. The family always stayed in the same cabin. The last family vacation there was in 1994 to celebrated Jane and Bob’s 50th Wedding Anniversary.
In 1968 Jane moved to Omaha Nebraska. Here she was involved with the United Methodist Church and a women’s group. Family traditions continued to be important with each holiday. In 1975 her first grandchild, Jennifer, was born. Scott Robert Harrington and Robert Thomas Weaver were born in 1982, followed by Mathew David Harrington in 1986. Her youngest grandchildren Michael Conner was born in 1994 and Jack Henry Friedrichsen in 1996. Now new traditions began for her. Jane and Bob would have grandchildren come to visit and take them to events like Sesame Street, Adventureland, Omaha Zoo, and Omaha Royals Baseball games. They also took them fishing and vacationing in Minnesota.
In addition to preparing holiday meals, Jane liked to treat the family by taking them out to eat. Favorite spots in Omaha were Cascio’s, Jerichos, Venice Inn, and Ross’s. She was always an entertainer.
In 2000 Jane moved to San Antonio Texas to be closer to family. Here she enjoyed Michael and Jack’s company at her house. They both spent many nights at their house. Having family over continued to be an important part of their life in Texas. Here she had another dog named Jane’s Dolly. Dolly provided lots of company and entertainment to both of them.
Her traditional foods to eat in Texas were Italian, Mexican, and Chinese. The family ate many meals at Milanos.
Jane greatly valued the family heirlooms that were passed down from her parents and the things she collected throughout her marriage. She was always telling the kids who owned the collectable and why it was important to her. One piece of furniture that travelled with her was the chaise lounge. Little Nancy delivered her puppies on this, sick kids would sleep here to stay close to Mom, and grandchildren would spend the night on this lounger. Jack, the youngest grandchild, has inherited this piece of family history.
In 2010 Jane moved to Homewood Estates because of health reasons. While living here she enjoyed her caretakers and visitors. She later moved to a nursing home due to declining health. Jane passed away November 15, 2016 at the age of 94.
