

Jane Lambert Welter, 84, of San Antonio, Texas, went to be with her Lord on January 16, 2015. She was born November 2, 1930 in Watertown, SD to Willis A. Lambert and Dorothy Sweeney. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Wilma Anderson. Jane is survived by her sister, Delores Shaffer, Groton, SD; her children, Dr. Cole H. Welter; Paige Welter Milam; Lane E. Welter; Dana Stolhandske and her husband Victor Carl; seven grandchildren, Carl Erik Stolhandske and his wife Sara; Christopher Lambert Welter and his wife Lauren; Dana Alexandria Stolhandske; Courtney Michelle Welter; Zachary Wilkes Milam; Steven Lambert Milam; Abigail Rose Milam; and four great grandchildren, Matthew, Christian, Pierce and Paxton.
Jane graduated from Watertown High School, Watertown, SD in 1948. After attending Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD she was certified in Intermediate Grade Education. She put her career path on hold while she raised her family, living briefly in Georgia and more than a decade in Colorado. While in San Antonio she received her Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1970 from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. In 1977 she received her Masters in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies from the University of Texas San Antonio.
She began her teaching career on a Sioux Indian reservation and for 27 years she taught second grade in room 12 at Beacon Hill Elementary in SAISD. In 1997 she retired from teaching and became an avid volunteer in area schools. She was a member of Altar Guild at St. George Episcopal until moving her membership to Christ Episcopal Church in 1999. Jane continued to support the Indian Reservation Education Funds throughout her life. She loved walking her schnauzer Muffin, playing her piano, solving the daily crossword puzzles and traveling with her church group. Most of all, she loved her family and friends with all her heart.
