

(Wilma) Jean Ivey went to the arms of her savior on Wednesday March 19, 2014 at 11:33 PM. Jean was a teacher, wife, mother, grandmother and community spirited person. The love of her life was family. She was the biggest fan and supporter of her husband (Don), sons (Chris and Griffin), and grandchildren (Sophia and Kai) who survive her. After family, teaching was the love of her life.
She taught at Northside Junior High in Norfolk Virginia, Fort Sam Houston Elementary, Franconia Elementary in Springfield Virginia, and Windcrest Elementary. She was a member of the Windcrest Elementary PTA that raised money for a new school playground. She was voted a lifetime member of the Windcrest Elementary PTA. She mentored students and helped establish a clothing closet with the counseling department for children in need. She wrote the Windcrest Summer Activity Schedule for children for 4 years. In 1998, she was awarded the Paragon Cable Hometown Hero Award for the City of Windcrest. She was a beautiful caring person and will be dearly missed.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 1:15 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Lonnie Phillips officiating. The interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
