

Jean Elizabeth Barnum Montgomery died peacefully in her sleep on June 11, 2014. Jean was born on July 19, 1916 in Sutton, Ontario, Canada to William and Florence Barnum. She became a naturalized American citizen at the age of nine and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. She returned to Canada in the summers to be with her relatives. She worked at Henry Ford Hospital where she met the love of her life Charles Francis "Monty" Montgomery. They were married in Detroit on September 10, 1937 and moved to Roswell, New Mexico. During World War II they lived in Baltimore, Maryland and finally settled in Houston, Texas where Monty practiced orthopedics.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Florence Barnum, husband, Charles Francis "Monty" Montgomery and brother, Harold Grant Barnum.
Jean is survived by her daughters Mary Montgomery Jeter of San Antonio and Bonnie Ellen Montgomery of Roswell, New Mexico. Her two grandsons were the joy of her life, Allen Jefferson "Jeff" Jeter II of San Angelo, Texas and Austin Montgomery Jeter of Burnet, Texas. She was their beloved Sug. Jean loved life and everyone, no matter their walk in life, was her friend. She outlived most of her friends, but was loved by so many.
A Memorial Service will be at First Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, Texas on August 18, 2014 at 3:00 in the Sanctuary.
