

Jean L. Schwartz of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on September 1, 2021, at the age of 89. She was born on September 21, 1931, in Plant City, Florida to John Foy and Ruth Irene (Stephens) Love. She was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart of 47 years, Richard Neal Schwartz and son, Richard Neal Schwartz, Jr.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Sue Ann (Schwartz) Hayward and son-in-law, John Hayward; grandchildren, James Hayward (Gina) and Daniel Hayward (Whitney); great grandchildren, Parker, Charlie, Maddie, Lucy and Jax. Jean is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sue Ellen (Schwartz) Kralovec (Joe) and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
She attended McLeansboro Township High School in McLeansboro, Illinois, graduating in 1949. She went on to receive her Nursing degree at St. Luke’s School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri in 1952.
Jean was married to the love of her life, Richard Neal Schwartz on February 7, 1953. After Rick’s graduation from the University of Illinois, he entered the United States Air Force and served for 22 years, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel. During those 22 years on active duty and after his retirement, they traveled the world, finally settling in San Antonio, Texas.
Jean was a loving wife, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her spirited conversations, excellent listening skills, and her warm smile for friends and strangers alike. She was also an ardent lover of God’s creatures, whether tame or wild. They all loved her too! Her favorite pastime was working in her garden. She received much recognition for her beautiful flowers. Jean was a classy woman, a stylish dresser and outstanding member of the community, respected by all that knew her. She will be dearly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at Porter Loring Mortuaries North. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:30 AM.
