Jennifer C. Martin, February 25, 1942-October 28, 2016. Jennifer was born to Sam E. and Ruth E. (Delling) Cunningham on February 25, 1942 in Laredo TX. As a teenager, she and her family moved to San Antonio where Jennifer attended Alamo Heights High School, graduating in 1960. Jennifer attended Greenbrier College in West Virginia and completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Eventually, Jennifer entered into her teaching career with Houston Independent School District retiring after over 30 years.
Jennifer was an accomplished athlete, skilled in riding and especially fencing. One of her proudest achievements was to be chosen as an alternate for the fencing competition at the 1968 Mexican Olympics. Traveling the world, seeing new places and meeting new people was an activity topped only by Jennifer cooking (and sharing) a great meal with friends all the while sipping on her glass of wine.
Jennifer is survived by her son, John B. Martin, III, her grandchildren, Kaylen, Kalia and Charles. She is also survived by her sister, Pamela (Frank) Sullivan of Placitas NM, brother Blaze (Jeannie Place) Cunningham of Tijeras NM, nephews Brandon (Leigh) Cunningham, Sam (Libby) Cunningham, niece Amber Cunningham, great nephew Duncan Cunningham, great nieces Helena and Annabel Cunningham and dear “sister” Debbie Kline. Jennifer leaves many, many friends to mourn her passing. She will always be remembered as that exotic beauty with the infectious laugh and amazing smile. Sleep well, Jennifer.
