Jerry F. Burke, age 91, passed away on November 14, 2021 in San Antonio, TX. He was born to Stella Margaret O’Connor and Roland Thomas Burke on September 7, 1930 in Galesburg, IL, grew up in Sioux City, IA, and spent most of his life in San Antonio. The eldest of nine siblings, Jerry was the patriarch of the Burke family. He was a good leader to his family and to those who worked with him in his 52 year career in the elevator industry. He helped build San Antonio and South Texas. In his retirement years, he relished being the neighborhood fix-it man. He was always willing to help family and friends and to lend a listening ear and give sound advice. Jerry, a talented pilot, received the distinguished Wright Brothers “Master Pilot” Award in 2015 from the FAA for his 50 years of safe flying. He was a longtime member of the Civil Air Patrol. When asked what he thought his mother would have wanted for him, he answered, “to be a better Catholic.” Indeed, Jerry was a blessing.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Stella, children David and Cheryl, and siblings Helen, Joanie, James, and Thomas, and his many loving pets.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda, and his children, Michael (Linda); Jon (Suzanne); Holly (Steve) Hall; Glenna; Matthew Armstrong; and Eric (Julie) Armstrong; siblings Rolly (Elaine); Rosie (Bobby) Belvin; Pat (Christy); Robert (Becky); and Katie (Lucky) Attal; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and loving friends.
A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, with funeral mass and reception to follow. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
