

Jesse J. Erben passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the age of 82. He was born April 16, 1926 in New Braunfels, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hertha Bremer and Adolph Erben; and his first wife, Barbara Beaton Erben; and brothers, Elton Erben and Harvey Erben. Survivors are his wife Lida Lee; daughters, Lynn Gillaspy and husband, Doug, Lisa Mire and husband David; son, Jim and wife, Kathy; stepson, Randy Mayo and wife Carolyn; and stepdaughter, Leanne Finlayson and husband Doug; grandchildren, Troy and Johnna Dusek, Brian and Lindsay Dusek, Marty Dusek, Ashley and David Williams, Tyson Mire, Jess Erben, Dolph and Layne Mayo, Wes Mayo and Rainey Mayo, Sarah Steves, Tres Steves and Emilie Steves and numerous great grandchildren. Jesse served his country in the US Army Air Corp during World War II as an interpreter. He is also survived by a sister, Nellrose Livingston; and brothers, Raymond Erben and Pete Erben. Jesse started his business career with Straus-Frank Co. selling "Ammo and fish hooks". He later began a long career in the investment business as a partner and part owner of Ditmar & Co. and later with Rauscher Pierce and Rotan Mosle where he frequently received the "Top Producer" investment broker award. Jesse was a long time member and past president of The Quarterback Club, an avid supporter of all athletics in Boerne and coached baseball for many kids in Boerne. He also served on the Boerne School Board for many years. Jesse owned Thunder Valley Ranch in Boerne which is now Tapatio Springs. He was a race horse owner and horse racing enthusiast and supported many activities at the San Antonio and Boerne stock shows.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Troy Dusek, Brian Dusek, Marty Dusek, Tyson Mire, Jess Erben, Dolph Mayo, Wes Mayo and Tres Steves. Honorary Pallbearers: Lukin Gilliland, Lon Carpenter, Elkin McGaughy, Joe Straus, George Fischer, Richard Arneson, George Mead, Art Snell and John Canty.
