He was born in San Antonio to Jesus S. Garcia and Francisca Garcia (Guerra) on July 3, 1938. He knew from the moment he met Blanca Alicia Gutierrez that she would be his no matter what, and she was for 61 years! They married on November 9, 1963, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Laredo, Texas. He graduated from Laredo Martin High School class of 1956, where his friends called him “Ike”. He then went on to receive a degree in Nursing from Laredo Junior College and worked as a Registered Nurse at Baptist Medical Center for 38 years. He served our country in both the Army and Navy Reserves.
Jesus enjoyed playing golf in his younger days but kept many hobbies throughout his life. He loved being outside and tending to his garden of roses, fruit trees, and various plants. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs fan. In his downtime, you could find him reading the newspaper, doing his puzzles, and watching his western movies— more specifically John Wayne.
He was known to be a social butterfly, never knowing a stranger and could get along with anyone. He loved making people laugh and had a quick wit no matter the circumstance. Jesus was constantly sharing words of wisdom; he lived an eventful life and had many stories to tell.
Jesus will sincerely be missed, but we know we’ll see him again—"God willing if the creek doesn’t rise!” And as he always told his grandchildren, “Be good, and if you can’t be good don’t be bad.”
Jesus is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Minerva Dominguez and Francisca (Fanny) Church.
Jesus is survived by his wife, Blanca Garcia; his children, Jesus Garcia III (Graciela), Blanca A. Wakeland (Clarke), Juan L. Garcia, Sylvia G. Leon (Phillip), and Gerardo Garcia (Lenore); his brother, Jose Luis Garcia (Emma), and sister, Teresa Juarez; his grandchildren, Amanda C. Hardy, Isabel C. Garcia, Jesus Garcia IV, Zachary J. Leon, Nicholas J. Leon, Dean Garcia, and Jarrod Garcia; his 5 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
