Jim was born in Stamford, Texas on July 26, 1943. He was raised by the greatest mother in the world, Faye McKinstry. Faye and Jim lived on his grandparent's ranch in Stamford until he was ten years old, then moved to Anson where he graduated from high school in 1961. He went to the University of Texas, then transferred to McMurry University where he met his love of his life and wife of 52 years, Nancy Thomsen of Abilene, Texas. After Jim graduated, and after many trips to see Nancy at UT in a beat up Volkswagen Beetle, they began their life together on August 26, 1966.
Jim was always a natural salesman and could sell ice to an Eskimo. Through the companies of Michelin Tire, Johnson and Johnson, US Surgical and Vidacare in San Antonio, Jim created a very successful career. He was known for his leadership abilities and for bringing out the very best in everyone he met. He selflessly and continually provided for his family. When Jim wasn't working he loved the outdoors and spent a large of amount of time fishing and hunting with friends and family. He was the life of the party wherever he went and loved to entertain his loved ones.
His last company, Vidacare, produced the EZ IO catheter, which provides interosseous access in place of intravenous access. This device has saved thousands and thousands of lives. Bringing Vidacare to fruition was Jim's proudest professional achievement.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Faye McKinstry of Abilene, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Thomsen; his son, Christopher Thomsen and granddaughter, Julianna; his daughter, Georgia Thomsen and granddaughters, Sadie and Eve.
A memorial service was held to honor in Jim in Erath County. In memoriam gifts may be made to Dell Children's Hospital in Austin, Texas in Jim's honor.
