Joan was born on March 26,1934, in San Antonio, Texas, to Frank and Daisy Willis. As a young girl, she loved to hike on their property in the Texas Hill County, she spent a lot of her time and was very close to her grandmother, Mary Patton Slaughter, aka “Little Momma”, and she developed childhood friendships that would last a lifetime. It would not be right if we did not mention her pet dog Micky, for he was in almost every story she told us about her childhood. She graduated from Thomas Edison High School in 1952 and attended 1 year at San Antonio College.
Joan was a loving wife of over 44 years to Paul Bass, and a devoted mother to her three children, John, Alan and Brenda. When the kids were growing up, she was a substitute teacher in the Comal County School District, she was also known as Mrs. Fish (LOL). She loved her toes in the sand and searching for seashells at the beach, and thoroughly loved to travel, for there were not many places we could ever mention whereas she had not visited. She had an infectious smile, one that would light up a room, and a signature laugh. Over the years, she was known for being a great listener, for her loving and caring attitude, and an unwavering commitment to support her friends and family through the highs and lows. The most important thing in her life became her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She surrounded herself with all of their many activities, as often as she could. She will be greatly missed, however, there is peace knowing she is with the Lord, and reunited with loved ones that have preceded her in death.
Joan is survived by her children and their spouses, John and wife Terri Bass, Alan and wife Amy Bass, Brenda and husband David Worsham; grandchildren, Cody Bass, Brittany and husband Cory Stewart, Cadi and husband Kory Winters, Frank, Charlotte and Bailey Bass, Steele and Bella Worsham; great-grandchildren, Case and Cannon Stewart, Cove and Blaze Winters, Colt and Cora Bass.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bass; mother and father, Daisy and Frank Willis, along with many of her close friends.
