

Joan Schilo Huntress passed away on December 4, 2025, at the age of 84. Joan was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 15, 1941, to Dorothy Jean Birdwell Schilo and Edgar Louis Schilo, Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Granger Huntress III.; her sister, Judy Schilo Siebert; her brother, Edgar Louis Schilo, Jr.; and her nephew, Christopher Harber Moore.
Joan graduated from Saint Mary’s Hall and the University of Texas at Austin. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Battle of Flowers Association, and Green Hand Garden Club.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Schilo Huntress; her sister, Janice Schilo Moore; her nephew, Michael Schilo Moore; her nieces Carrie Siebert Jowers and her husband, Jeffrey; Mimi Siebert Bowen and her husband, Chad; and grandnieces, Sophia and Parker Jowers and grandnephew, Cage Bowen. She is also survived by her sisters in law, Diana Huntress and Lynn Harwood Huntress; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan adored many pets over the years and was an ardent supporter of the Humane Society of San Antonio. She leaves behind her precious kitties, Cate, and Pepper.
A private service will be held at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of San Antonio, or a charity of your choice.
