Joan Du Barry Konze was born March 14, 1932, and went to be with Jesus February 9, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Louis (Lou) Konze; her daughters, Sharon Reinsch, Linda Little and Kathy Alt; and her loving sons-in-law, Gary Reinsch, John Little and Scott Alt. She had 7 grandchildren: Joe, Brett, Andy, Chad, Sara, Morgan and Brandon; and 11 great grandchildren. She deeply loved every member of her family, but their dog, Timmy - named after Tim Duncan, cannot be omitted from the list. She was looking forward to celebrating her 90th birthday in a big way with her family.
Joan was born in Cushing, OK, but made her way eventually to Texas City, where she met and married her husband, Lou. Even after decades, she, with great emotion, told the story of her experience in the 1947 Texas City Explosion. It was a disaster that affected her and her friends deeply. She enjoyed growing up so close to the Gulf, though, developing a love of beach vacations that lasted her whole life.
As a dedicated military wife, she guided the family in moves from Puerto Rico to Guam, to 11 USAF bases, and 14 homes over 26 years before their last duty assignment to Randolph AFB.
She and Lou joined St. Matthew Catholic Church 50 years ago in 1972, soon after it was founded.
She was a loyal Texas Aggie fan until her children and grandchildren introduced her to their schools, resulting in her love of many sports teams. She never wanted a family member to feel left out so she cheered for each of their teams, which got a little tricky when their teams played each other!
She was a kind yet strong woman, who could win you over with a little bit of southern charm. Most admirable was her unwavering faith and unconditional love. Those who knew her well, knew that no matter who you were or what you did you were accepted, supported and loved.
Joan is predeceased by her mother, Kathleen Morgan, many family members and friends she loved like family. She will be dearly missed, but we celebrate that she’s in Heaven with her Lord and Savior!
