

Joan Sears Miller passed away Thursday 20, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born December 29, 1930, in San Antonio, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents Louis Dean and Stella Sears and her husband of 53 years, Joseph G. Miller. She is survived by her daughters, Liz Tidwell (Jon), Carrie Hensarling (Robert) of Uvalde, TX, sons; Joe Miller (Rheatha), Bill Miller of San Antonio, TX.She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Joan graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio where she had the pleasure of being one of the Jefferson Lassos, she went on to graduate from Trinity University with a major in Art. She worked as an artist for the Memorial Student Center at Texas A & M University and in the early 1970’s she created theUvalde High School Art Department and taught both art and drama there for 5 years.
Being an artist was Joan’s passion and became her lifelong career, while raising her family in Uvalde during the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. She pursued her artwork in watercolors and produced Texas hill country acrylic paintings on local Nueces River rock and exotic rocks such as jade, onyx, marble, and petrified wood. Joan would show and sell her bluebonnets, whitetail deer and hill country scenes as a member of the San Antonio River Art Group and her paintings have been sold to people in all 50 states and over 20 international countries. In the late 80’s Joan and Joe moved back to San Antonio so she could continue to paint and support the River Art Group Gallery and was a proud member for more than 40 years!
Mrs. Millers wishes after her death were to have a private family gathering upon internment with her late husband Joe at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
