JoAnne Davis Leggett

JoAnne was born on June 21, 1953, to parents Virginia Klug and Edward Leo Davis, both deceased. She was raised in the San Antonio area as the oldest of three siblings and is survived by sisters Janett Javandoost and Mary Jane Brooks. JoAnne married husband Thomas Edward Leggett, Jr. and had children Virginia Leggett Jackson and Matthew Thomas Leggett, each still living in San Antonio. JoAnne is also survived by four grandchildren: Kiley Michelle Leggett, Keren Rose Jackson, Rene Esi Jackson, and Hannah Ekua Jackson.

Upon completion of her degree at Southwest Texas State University, JoAnne began her career in clinical laboratory science and worked her way up through most of the major San Antonio hospitals until retirement from Methodist Hospital in 2019. For many years, JoAnne dedicated her knowledge and compassion as one of the original members of the Los Quijotes of San Antonio medical missionary group. Her husband and children frequently accompanied her on the annual trip to Oaxaca, Mexico and her home was filled with gifts commemorating her service. Additionally, JoAnne often volunteered her time to charitable activities and community events with her employers and children’s schools.

After struggling with unexplained declines in mobility and vision since retirement, JoAnne was diagnosed in 2022 with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare and untreatable neurodegenerative disorder. With support from her family, hospice staff and caregivers, she was able to remain engaged with the church, participate in activities with her grandchildren and take a few final trips while remaining in her home surrounded by family until her passing.
