

Joe was born in Amarillo, Texas, on March 20, 1929 to Joe Killough and Johnnie Faye Evans. He earned his pilot’s license at the age of 15 and continued to fly sport planes until he was 87. He joined the Army during the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant, and despite being a pilot, he was assigned to tank inspection duties. Following the Army, he pursued work in the insurance field, as well as civil service for the Defense Language Institute. While at DLI, he met and married Diana Diaz in 1977. Joe also created and ran a successful ammunition manufacturing business, B-K Bullet Company.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his half-brother Ricky Killough, and a number of family dogs and one cat who were dear to him. He is survived by his wife, Diana Diaz Killough (Helotes, TX), his children Susan K. Bucher and husband John Bucher (Charlotte, NC), Joe Phillip Killough and wife Veronica (San Antonio, TX), Tracy Killough and wife Donna (San Antonio, TX), five grandchildren: Paige Killough (Houston, TX), Brittany Martin (Fort Mill, SC), Bridget Drislane (Fort Mill, SC), Shaune Killough (Mineola, NY) and Shannon Killough (San Antonio, TX), and three great-grandchildren: Erin and John Martin, and Gracie Shae Drislane. In addition, Joe leaves behind his half-sister Maurine Killough, half-brother Jack Killough, his cousin Gene Smith and the members of the Diaz family who embraced him as one of their own.
A closed-casket visitation for Joe will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 4:00 PM at SUNSET NORTHWEST FUNERAL HOME, 6321 Bandera Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78238. A funeral service will occur immediately following on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 5:00 PM, 6321 Bandera Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78238. A committal service will occur Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 9:45 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. (Shelter #5), San Antonio, Texas 78209.
