I'm sorry about your loss.  Mr. Killough was a terrific man and had a remarkable career.  I also want to add that Diana was a wonderful section chief and knew how to be kind and understanding to others.  I will never forget the example she set.  I hope your husband's memory will be a blessing to your entire family and that you take care.

Dear Diana,  I clearly remember the first time I met Joe when he came to pick you up from DLI one day.  He was so friendly and engaging and he had a sharp wit and a wonderful sense of humor.  The bond between you two was clearly evident and it was always fun to get together whether to share a meal at El Chaparral or to go boating on Medina Lake.  Family and friends meant so much to you both.   May you cherish the memories of your long and happy life together, and may God’s grace and peace be with you.

I went in business in 1992 and Joe ( BK bullets) was one of my first customers.
He had some machines that I wasn’t familiar with but he told me I could fix them.  He wasn’t going to be beat and wasn’t going to let me be beat either.
He was right on both!
We became friends and never looked back.
I did work for them at their house and at the hangers for almost 30 years.
After doing some work at the hangers one day he took me up in the plane ( WOW)
We we landed he said not bad for an 82 year old ( cheated death one more time)
It finally caught up up with him.

Joe was a man full of life, love and laughter.  I admired him for all those things and more. I loved visiting with Joe and my cousin Diana!  Every time I left he would tell me you need to visit us more often.  I would think to myself he should be careful what he asks for.    

I remember Joe taking me for a ride in his airplane, I was so nervous but the sights he showed me, Spurs players homes and sea world made me forget I was even nervous at all.  He will be greatly missed.  

Joe was a good friend and I miss him greatly.  I think he would want me to stop right there, and what more can anyone say.

He introduced my wife and I to a community of aviators that became home.  We spent hours resolving the issues of the world, and he was wise.  I could listen to his remarkable stories forever.  His was a remarkable life and I loved to hear his stories, some of which he shared with few others outside the veterans at the table.  

I'll share a photo from his 90th birthday.  I took him flying in an airplane identical to those he had parked as a cadet decades before.  He piloted the aircraft with skill and I think he would like to be remembered that way.   

He fought getting old with determination, a mind sharp as a tack and whit as sharp as a rapier.  

Fair Skies and Tailwinds forever now.  Joe was a friend.

Joe touched all of us with his wit and many interesting stories. Of course we will miss him, but his positive nature will be with us forever.  I recall his love for flying and that crazy Ultra Light he flew early on; that thing used to make me so nervous.  I was so glad when he moved up to a real airplane. Never one shy about doing daring things, I remember the time he convinced Diana to join him in parachuting in celebration of his 75th birthday.  And to my surprise they did it.  Truely an example of the love they shared for each other. Joe always lived his life to the fullest. 

Most of all, I will fondly remember that he was always there for us.  If anyone needed help, he never hesitated,  never asked questions, never made it conditional. He was always there at family gatherings whether with the Maldonado's or the Diaz's: He was part of the party.  He loved family and  gave out advice whether we asked for it or not. And there were some real nuggets: like "happy wife, happy life" and he would always remind me that the proper response to a spouse  was a simple "yes dear".   He shared the same birthday with Mom, but always made sure she got all the attention.  When  he and I talked on the phone, he always ended the call with:  "Ok now come see us". 

He was a good person, and we will miss him!

I COULDN'T HOPE TO LIST ALL OF THE GOOD THINGS THERE ARE TO SAY ABOUT THIS FINE MAN.  WE LOVED HIM HERE A THE SHOP;   HE KNEW THE OLD TIMERS BY NAME AND WAS HAPPY TO MAKE US ALL SMILE WHEN HE WOULD COME AND VISIT;   USED TO MAKE HIM MAD IF I GAVE HIM A SERVICE FOR FREE---ESPECTIALLY IN THE EARLY YEARS OF THIS BUSINESS----HE WAS AFRAID I WOULDN'T MAKE IT!!   HIS WIFE DIANA IS AN ANGEL AND WAS LOVING AN CARING FOR JOE TILL THE LORD TOOK HIM   

I met Joe when he brought one of his several airplanes to San Geronimo Airpark on the far West side of San Antonio about 20 years back. Joe has a very busy history, Major,  Tank Commander in the Army, had his own ammunition manufacturing business in Helotes, owned several different types of aircraft which he flew. Joe started buying hangars and at one time owned more property at the Airpark than anyone else. Joe’s main hangar became the “meeting “ place for everyone to mingle, have a beverage of their choice, tell “stories “ and just enjoy themselves. A lot of the wives would come join Diana and they would set at their tables and have a great time also. Joe sold all his hangars a couple years ago and Shirley and I moved up north to Weatherford, Tx . One day I wrote Joe an email and told him ( as Bob Hope used to close all his shows) “ Thanks for the Memories , Joe” for all the many great times we had at his hangar. Joe will be greatly missed at San Geronimo. Our warmest condolences to you, Diana and the rest of the family. Until we meet again, Joe.

JOE WAS MY COUSIN AND MY BROTHER.  WE GREW UP TOGETHER IN AMARILLO TX.  TO HIM, I WAS ALWAYS "LITTLE GENE".  JOE HAD A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR AND EVERYONE LIKED HIM.  HE LOVED TO FLY AND FLEW EVERY THING FROM A PIPER CUB, EROCOUP, POWERED GLIDER, AND CESSNA. HE FOUND HIS SOULMATE IN DIANA. HE HAD THREE GREAT CHILDREN.  I TOOK MANY OF MY FRIENDS TO MEET JOE AND THEY ALL FOUND HIM TO BE A FUN GUY.  HE WAS A SMART BUSINESSMAN AND  A SELF MADE MAN.  TO SAY THAT I WILL MISS HIM IS NOT SAYING ENOUGH.  ONE DAY I WILL JOIN JOE IN AN AIRPLANE SOMEWHERE UP THERE.

Diana, although I didn't have the honor of meeting Joe in person, I felt like I knew him because you always so lovingly spoke of him. Please know that you, the Killough and Diaz families are in my thoughts and prayers. May the peace, strength, comfort,  and courage only the Lord, Jesus and Holy Spirit can give be with you and loved ones in the difficult days ahead.
