Joe Charles Martinez

Joe graduated from Thomas Edison High School then served his country by joining the Army. After his service he graduated UTSA with a Bachelors in Fine Arts degree.

He obtained his teaching certificate and then began his career as an Art teacher at South San High School. He loved his students and school and continued to teach there until his death.

He truly enjoyed not only teaching his students but volunteered to be with them at pep rallies, as a chaperone or any other school event.

When not with his students Joe used his talent to paint, sculpt and create using any art medium. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and loved music. He grew up on the South Side and continued many life-long friendships from the old neighborhood.

Joe attended St. James Catholic School. He was a member of St. Anthony De Padua Catholic Church.

He fought a prolonged illness with cancer and will be missed by all.

Joe is preceded in death by his father, Vidal M. Martinez, Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Mary C. McQuaid Martinez; brothers, Sean P. Martinez and wife, Sylvia and Dennis B. Martinez and fianc, Maria Pierce; sisters, Mary C. Molina, Carol A Schmidt and husband, Jochen and Linda E. Baker; nieces and nephews, Mark Molina (Eileen), Katherine Martinez, Erin Sellars (Eric), Megan Baker, Kelly Martinez Owen (Joshua), Colleen Martinez, Brent Baker, Brian Martinez; great nephew and niece, Ronan and Niamh Molina; numerous cousins throughout the United States and Ireland and many close and dear friends, along with the students and faculty of South San High School.
