John was born in Matherville, IL to William Sen Anderson and Anna
Catherine Kennedy June 16, 1930. He graduated college from Western
Illinois State College in 1952. He married Joan (Jodi) Kathryn Swafford on
September 7, 1953 in Silvis, IL. John began his 31 year military career in the
United States Air Force in 1952 at the Great Lakes Naval Station in IL. He
was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded Legion of Merit with
one oak leaf cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal,
Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters, Air Force
Outstanding Unit Award, Combat Readiness Medal, Air Force Good
Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal
with two silver stars, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with six
oak leaf clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Republic of
Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device, Republic of Vietnam Campaign
Medal. He was in the Order of Daedalians, the Highland Lakes Chapter of
The Military Officers Association of America, and Chairman of the
University Hills Neighborhood Association.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his spouse, his sister Ann and
brothers Vernon and Urban.
John is survived by his children Martha Wallgren (Michael), Michael
Anderson (Randy), Mark Anderson (Carrie), Melissa Anderson (Virginia),
Mary Coronado (Donald), Matthew Anderson (Cristina), Monica Williams,
and 15 grandchildren along with 12 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Wallgren, John Anderson, Patrick Coronado,
Matthew Coronado, Peyton Williams, and Brook Williams. Honorary
pallbearers Megan Wallgren, Tori Stevens, Micah Willams and Kathryn
Coronado.
Visitation will be at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home 1701 Austin
Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. March 18, 2025 4:00 - 4:30 pm for
family followed by visitation and reception from 4:30 - 7:00 pm with Rosary
to start at 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church 3919 Harry
Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78209 March 19, 2025 at 11:30 am.
Burial with military honors will follow at Fort Sam Cemetery at 1:00 pm
with a reception to follow at the Towers 601 Harry Wurzbach Road, San
Antonio, TX 78209 at 2:00 pm.
