

Major General John H. Buckner, age 90, of San Antonio, TX, died Saturday, December 12, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents John F. and Eleanor; wife Ann; sister Marietta and husband Dr. James Curtis; brother, Irwin and wife Jane; Brother Arthur and wife Margaret; and Brother Dan and wife Gwen.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Jean Buckner; son John Jr. and wife Ann; son Robert and wife Mary; daughter Lynn Rich; grandchildren: Jill Buckner, Emilia Rich, Lt. Col. Greg Buckner and wife, Lisa; sisters-in-law, Jane Kusel and Glenda Buckner wife of Dan; and numerous other family and friends.
General Buckner was a great American who served God, country, and the United States Air Force. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was born in Cleburne, Texas, and graduated from the United States Military Academy in Jan 1943. He was a D-Day planner for World War II; and flew P-47s in World War II, F-86s in Korea and several fighter aircraft in Vietnam. He had a distinguished military career with numerous command positions and retired as a Major General in 1971.
Following his military service he built bridges throughout the state of Texas and served a tour as President of the Texas Association of General Contractors. He was a devoted Rotarian and was a chapter President. He served, he lead, and he will be missed.
