Surrounded by his loving family, John C. Chunn (Johnny) of Hondo, Texas, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the age of 72. Born on December 5, 1949, in Irving, Texas, John will be lovingly remembered as a devoted Christian who spent his life bringing joy, laughter, and God’s word to others.
After graduating with honors from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1971, John received his Juris Doctor degree from Baylor University in 1973. For the next 49 years, John practiced law with integrity and compassion, building relationships and continuing to diligently serve others with care and loyalty.
John’s service was far-reaching, as he served as an acting board member for the Rafiki Foundation. For over 30 years, John traveled to several countries in Africa and his contributions were instrumental in establishing schools and providing training for villages. He had a passion for leading others to Christ and proudly held weekly Bible studies for men in surrounding communities. These activities truly brought him joy.
John’s greatest purpose was his family. He loved and cherished his beautiful wife, Charlotte, for over 50 years. Together they raised their three children and instilled a love of faith, purpose, and resilience.
John is survived by his wife, Charlotte, his children, Amy Chunn, Alyssa Robins, and John Ashley Chunn (Lindsay), his grandchildren, Grayson John Chunn Seidel, Jack Thomas Robins, Madlyn Elizabeth Chunn, and John Chandler Chunn. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayman Chunn (Tama), Lonnie Chunn (Ann), and his sister, Teresa Welsh (Allen).
A service to celebrate John’s life will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 4, 2022, at University Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the John Chunn Memorial Fund: https://www.rafikifoundation.org/project/john-chunn-memorial-fund.
