John Anthony Coronado passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the age of 46. This beloved husband, father, son and brother was Senior Supervisor for McDonald's Acosta, Inc., where he worked for 14 years.
He graduated from Antonian College Preparatory High School and received his bachelors of Science and masters of Science from Angelo State University. John was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. As a young boy, he took so much interest in his team that he could tell you all the players names, positions they played, and the colleges from which they had graduated. He beamed with happiness when they won and was in a foul mood when they lost. He was teased mercilessly by his uncle Ruben when the Cowboys lost.
John started working for McDonald's as a cook when he was in high school. While at Angelo State, he worked as a manager at McDonald's in San Angelo. This was a very special time in his life because it was there that he met the love of his life, María, who was also employed at McDonald's.
After graduation from Angelo State, he worked briefly for R&L Corporation, owners of Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken, in San Angelo, Flagstaff, AZ and Farmington, NM. He was a health department inspector in San Antonio for a year, but missed McDonald's. He resumed his career with McDonald's and joined McDonald's Acosta, Inc. as manager in 2002. He was later promoted to general manager and senior supervisor.
During his 14 years with McDonald's Acosta, Inc. many employees were promoted to managers, general managers and supervisor. Many of his stores were awarded the Outstanding Store Award, and many of his managers were awarded the Outstanding General Manager award. Anytime there was a new manager or a manager who needed help in a certain area, John always wanted them in his team so he could coach them. He was an amazing mentor and role model.
John was a selfless person. He was a remarkable friend and supervisor to all his employees. He was respected by his peers. He made each person feel important. Employees wanted to work for him.
He was very involved with the Ronald McDonald House. At Christmas, he dressed as Santa and volunteered to cook every Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner. He volunteered each year to prepare treat bags to give to the children as they arrived at the Ronald McDonald House.
John was a hands-on dad. He was his son's rock. He was always involved in PTA and if Anthony wanted to participate in a sport, John was a skill master in showing him how to excel. When Anthony joined the Boy Scouts, John became a Boy Scout leader at St. Luke's Catholic Church.
He served on several ACTS teams, volunteered at St. PJ's, and volunteered to build playgrounds for underprivileged children.
John is survived by his wife of 16 years, María; his son Anthony; his parents Antonio and Alice E. Coronado; brother Robert Coronado; niece Christina Coronado Mery; nephew Mark Coronado; uncle Ruben M.
