

Col. John F. Daye, Jr, born in Manila, Philippines where his Father was serving in the U.S. Army helping train the Pilipino scouts March 4, 1920, died Friday, February 4, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas.
Col. John F. Daye, Jr., USAF Ret graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in January 1943, the only class to graduate in the snow. He received his B.S. in Industrial Administration from the USAF Institute of Tech 1949.
His MBA was awarded in 1969 from George Washington University. Upon retirement from the USAF in 1969 he received his CLU certification. He always wanted to fly and leaped at the chance to enter pilot training. After graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he served in Italy flying P38's "receses" and then served in a variety of command and staff positions including combat support missions to Korea while stationed in Japan. Col. Daye commanded the 323rd Fighter Squadron, flying F102's, commanded the 4731st Air Defense group in Newfoundland and was later assigned to the USAF Academy as Deputy Commandant of Cadets. Col Daye retired as Chief, Allocations Division, Directorate of Aerospace Program, HQ USAF Pentagon.
He then was employed for 17 years with USAA, serving as President, USAA Financial Services Division, and President of Life and Health Division.
He was preceded in death by his father, Col. John F. Daye, Sr. and his mother Ruth M. Daye; his wife, Martha Myrl Daye; brother, Lt. Col. Thomas M. Daye; and grandson, John Prescott Price.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Daye; daughters, Barbara Price and husband, Jeff, and Patricia DiFilippo and husband, John; and granddaughter, Kristin Price.
