

He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 55 years Carole Jean, his mother Cinda (T.W.) McCabe, father Jay Reese Emrie, and brother Jay Reese Emrie. He is survived by his sons, Ross (Olga), Ted (April), grandsons, Mason and Taylor, sister in law, Emma Emrie, sister, June (Monty) Montgomery, nieces, Linda (Garry) Abrahamson, Barbara (David) Myers, nephews, Jerry (LuLu ) Emrie, Kenneth (Holly) Emrie and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
John was a proud native Texan born in San Antonio and graduated from Edison High School. He served in the Army Reserves during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1959 with the rank of Sergeant first class. He was a home builder for 20+ years and past member of the San Antonio Builder Association. He retired from Thad Ziegler Glass Company where he was architectural representative and contract manager. John enjoyed playing golf with childhood friend from first grade Bucky Baker. John almost shot his age shooting an 81 when he was 80 years old. He and his wife Carole loved socializing with friends, dancing at the roaring 20’s, playing bingo and traveling extensively in their motor home especially to Branson Missouri with their dog sneezy. Special thanks and appreciation go to John’s neighbors and Bingo friends for their friendship, caring and support as well as the compassion and caring from his caregivers at Visiting Angels and Christus Hospice Care who offered comfort, compassion and care in his final days.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 7:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will be private.
