

He was born February 16, 1928, in Seguin, Texas, the youngest of six children of the late J.P. and Beulah Webb Gibbs.
He attended public schools in Seguin and Austin, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and Perkins Theological Seminary at SMU, and was ordained in the Methodist Church.
During John's career as an active minister, he served churches in Bandera, Sterling City, San Antonio Coker United Methodist Church 1963-68, St. Mark's United Methodist Church 1974-76, Laredo, Harlingen, Austin St. John's United Methodist Church 1985-88and Llano, campus ministries at Texas A&I University and the University of Texas at Austin, and held several administrative positions.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Joanne Harkey Gibbs.
John is survived by his children, John Harkey Gibbs and wife, Kim, Mary Gibbs Tacher and husband, David, Stephen Thomas Gibbs and wife, Monika, Betty Gibbs Curry and husband, Brock; grandchildren, Ryan David and Jordan Christopher Tacher, Emily Camille and Samuel Gibbs Curry; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Coker United Methodist Church, or Morningside Ministries Covenant Fund, Attn: Jack Rodgers, 700 Babcock Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78201 or a charity of your choice.
