'It's been 1 year today... it still saddens me to know that you left this earth to early. John I know you are looking down and smile your warm smile as you continue to see the amazing things that happen because of what you started. 'How do I begin to write in a few words my feelings for and about John McLaughin. I learned so much from John, he understood people and cared about them, he was so kind, so present, so much fun. A great manager, truly a leader, he brought about the best in his staff and the company. 
 
I had the pleasure of working with JVM from the first day he came to San Antonio (SNO) to join AFD. Soon after his arrival he found out from Vicki, who was still in Florida, that he was to be the father of twins. He was grinning from ear to ear and was beyond delighted. So many memories of those early days in SNO and the entire ten years I worked for the Capital Group have flooded my thoughts since I learned of John's death. I am so thankful to having known him. Rest in peace dear John.

I know there is nothing I could say to help his family through this time, but I will always remember his smile and his wanting to listen to whatever we wanted to say. Everybody was treated respect and he found away to help. God Bless him, his family and those he helped and continues to help.'
