

John Vincent McLaughlin passed away on August 31, 2017 due to complications after heart surgery in San Antonio. He was born on October 11, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Eleanore Pease McLaughlin and Charles John McLaughlin. After graduating from St. Joseph's University, John served as a Marine Corps Officer in Vietnam. His professional career started with 20 years in the airline industry and concluded with 20 years in the financial services industry as a Senior Vice President with The Capital Group Companies.
John's commitment to his family and community was evidenced by his involvement in many charitable organizations in San Antonio including Texas Biomedical Research Institute, Texas Public Radio, San Antonio Academy, San Antonio Zoo, Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, the Charity Ball Association and many others. He was also responsible for developing a meaningful partnership between The Capital Group Companies and Sul Ross Middle School in San Antonio. As a result of this program, over $1 million has been awarded in college scholarships to Sul Ross students and over 5,000 hours of volunteer support to help students achieve their academic goals. In appreciation, the school library was named the John McLaughlin Library.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Vicki; two sons, Matthew and Michael; daughter-in-law, Nicola; daughter, Bonnie; son-in-law, Taylor; brothers, Jim and Charlie McLaughlin; and in-laws, Mona and Jack Hancock.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 7th, 2:00pm at Christ Episcopal Church with a reception to follow at The Argyle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charity Ball Legacy Foundation, P.O. BOX 6508, San Antonio, TX 78209 or one of the charities listed above.
