Dear Morris Family:

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved.  There are never any right words to express how deeply sad I am for the pain your family is enduring at this difficult time.    

Although I did not have the honor and pleasure of knowing him, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, I am sincerely thankful for his valiant service in defense of our rights and freedom.

His commitment to family, friends, our community, and to serving our great nation leaves a wonderful legacy.  May the love and the wonderful memories you shared with him help you when you need it most. He will never be forgotten, and your family will be remembered in my prayers.

I loved being around Uncle Johnny, from his teasing of Grandma to listening to his stories about deer hunting and his time in the Army.  His life and actions have set an example for me.  I will sincerely miss him.

Things flourished around Johnny.  He had a talent for seeing  and bringing out the best in just about anything that was alive whether it be a tree, mule, child, or employee.  I will miss him but his inspiration will continue.

I was told about this great Texan with a big heart and a real cowboy soul.
I would like to have met him...

Dear Family,
Visits to see Cousin Johnny & Larissa were always my favorite thing to do. Feeding Freezer before Johnny got up got me in trouble -- there was a big bull out there to pay atttention to.  Riding Dan after Son John warmed him up for a city-slicker was very special. I remember falling off Romy because he did a 360 and I did a 180.  The farm is gorgeous and peaceful.  Grateful for many memories of many things, but sorry I cannot be there at this time.

Uncle Johnny began his life when few owned a car, when any color could be had as long as it was black. However, he lived to see the day when he had the pleasure of crossing his personal cattle guard to park his blue Cadillac in the garage.

Uncle Johnny is one of the few persons I know that lived with one boot in the past and one in the present, on the same plot of land on which he was raised. 

He made the long winding road of life seem easy, like a relatively effortless hop, skip, and a jump. Could be from learning to co-exist with cactus, thorns, rattlesnakes, rambunctious steers, droughts with no time-line and learning to substitute baling wire to mend almost any problem. He also managed to select the most worthy vehicle of transportation and had a keen sense of direction, not getting distracted by numerous forks.

I loved being one of your favorite red heads! You always had a smile on your face and a sarcastic mark to say! Be at peace with Aunt Larissa.

Johnny, you and your family are very special to Pat and I. Even though you always got a bigger Buck than me when deer hunting, or gigged more flounder when we fished,You were a great mentor to me. You were so modest that it took years for me to pry tales of your military exploits in the Burmese Jungle out of you. We miss you very much.

I learned a lot from Uncle Johnny, like leave the gate the way you found it, don't get between a mama cow and her calf, how to get a bull out of a stock tank with two men on horseback, a jeep, and a couple of kids, and a little hard sweaty work isn't so hard if you can have some fun along with it.  He will always remain an important part of my life.

What wonderful memories we have of John Morris! It was a long time ago when our family came to Texas to see everyone. My Dad rode John's horse "Dan" (to give an idea of how long ago). John and Larissa and family came to Ohio many times to visit with family. He was a strong and loving man with a wonderful sense of humor - he could really tease! John and Larissa had a true love and they will be able to walk together once again. We wish you all peace and love at this sad time. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers as you celebrate his life on this earth.

Johnny, you were a very special person in my life and I enjoyed blessing you with a clean house every Tuesday for 20 years. I always looked forward to Tuesdays!  We always had so much to talk about and I liked it when you had the old western movies on.  You were very special to me and my family and we  loved you as family.  You were an incredible person and you will be special to me forever and I will miss you.
