

John L. Quinlan, III, age 69, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2007, after an extended illness. He was born of John L. Quinlan, Jr., and Claudia Quinlan on February 5, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas. He was a Christian man of honor and integrity. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, class of 1956; St. Mary's University, distinguished ROTC graduate; St. Mary's University School of Law, class of 1962.
He was admitted to the practice of law by the State Bar of Texas in 1965. He retired from the U. S. Army Reserves with the rank of Lt. Col. He was a well-known practicing attorney and teacher of law in San Antonio and for a number of years served as an assistant district attorney for Bexar County. He held the position of Chief Post of the felony section and head of special crimes. In 1971, he was one of 14 Texas prosecutors appointed to the Texas State Bar Committee to rewrite and revise the 116 year-old Penal Code.
He was predeceased by his wife, Cindy Reed Quinlan. He is survived by his children, John L. Quinlan, IV, and wife, Julia; Joey Quinlan, and wife, Annette; and Claudia Quinlan; step-children, David Rene Hernandez and Reed Kopplow; grandchildren, Sean and Morgan Quinlan; his brother, Matt Quinlan and wife Dianne; his sister, Sheila Wilson and husband Fred. He was a member of the Catholic Church, the San Antonio Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and numerous other civic and professional organizations.
