He is preceded in death by his wife, Della Stelly and granddaughter, Leslie Hoover.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Hoover and husband, Sid; grandsons, Matthew and Brent Hoover; brother, J.C. Stelly; sisters, Edith Bourgeois; Etie Lopez, Annabell LeBlanc and Thelma Duhon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
During World War II, John served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Texaco Oil Company as a drilling supervisor.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended St. Pius X Catholic Church.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Incarnate Word Retirement Community and to Dr. Abdu Kadri for their compassionate and loving care.
Funeral services will be held at a future date, under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home, 2051 E. Napoleon St., Sulphur, Louisiana
