John was a WWII veteran, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. From there he went to medical school and later into psychoanalytical training.
John lived by his Hippocratic oath and helped many patients in his 52 years of practice. He was a mentor and a pioneer in his field.
In his spare time, John was an avid sportsman and had many true 'fish' tales to tell. John was a dear friend to many people and he and Andra were a wonderful match for each other.
John overcame many medical obstacles with resilience and a remarkable determination. His spirit was never broken. Although he leaves behind many heartbroken people, he would have wanted his life celebrated with joy and his spirit carried on.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marvel Daines and brother, Paul Winkler.
He is survived by his wife, Andra Winkler; daughters, Andrea Winkler of McDonough, GA and Leslie Cifelli and husband, Mike of Bulverde, TX; niece, Judy Crabb of Michigan; nephew, Timothy Daines of Michigan; and brother-in-law, Ambrose Dittloff and wife, Pam of Charlotte, NC.
