Whether we were fortunate to have experienced a relationship with him directly or indirectly, the loss of Jon Massey leaves a deep ache in our hearts.
Jon spent most of his life working in Healthcare as the owner and administrator of Hospice Home Care, then Heritage Home Health. His passion was end of life care, where he was able to use all of his spiritual gifts for compassion, for kindness and for generosity. He was a great leader, always bringing out the best in people, developing relationships easily and operating with the highest integrity and standards for caring for others. He always said, we care for each patient the way we would want our own mother or spouse or child cared for....even if it wasn't financially beneficial to do so, he ALWAYS did what was right.
He was a loyal friend: the guy that could sit for hours and listen to every story and heartbreak without judgement and with unending compassion. He made friends wherever he went - whether it was the millionaire in the bank lobby or the homeless man outside in the parking lot. It did not matter to Jon, he viewed all people as valuable and cared so deeply for every need.
Every relationship Jon entered was rewarded by his completely unselfish character. He put others first, going out of his way to joyfully do mundane things that might inconvenience others. His day revolved around who we was helping, and he gladly interrupted his schedule with actions like changing a tire for a stranger, helping a friend move, or trimming trees for a neighbor.
He was a devoted and dependable father. He ALWAYS provided financially for his family. And more so, he provided emotionally through his instinctive and genuine ability to listen, or providing an outlandish, well-timed joke. He showed up for EVERY event and went out of his way to make EACH of his children feel special and loved.
He adored Jennifer, who was the love of his life, and he demonstrated it in endless ways. They were best friends, sharing big dreams and encouraging each other. He constantly surprised her with gifts and little encouraging notes or funny voicemails to brighten her day.
Jon was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
"The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things, there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23.
