

Mr. Jose “Joe” I. Gomez, age 73, passed away May 27, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on March 7, 1948 in Houston, Texas to parents, Chencho P. and Beatrice (Almendarez) Gomez. Mr. Gomez was a Vietnam War veteran who served in the U.S. Navy. During the Vietnam War he served as a Hospital Corpsman on the USS Sanctuary (AH-17).
Following his service with the Navy he joined the Naval reserves. He attended and graduated from the University of Texas System School of Nursing at San Antonio. As a registered nurse, Mr. Gomez worked in the VA Health system and for the San Antonio University Health system. He was also a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses.
He enjoyed working on the family ranch, deer and dove hunting, as well as playing golf. His greatest passion was barbecuing on the grill for his family and experimenting with many different grilling recipes. Mr. Gomez was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church where he belonged to the Men’s Club of St. Luke’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chencho and Beatrice Gomez; brother, Andy Gomez and sister, Delfina Gomez. He is survived by his loving wife, Margie G. Gomez; children, Denise Gomez, Amanda Reese, Matthew Gomez (Tania) and Hannah Gomez; grandchildren, Ian Paine and Sophia Reese; sisters, Lupe Gomez and Janie Garza; and nephews, Christopher Gomez and Joaquin Garza.
Visitation will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm with rosary at 7:00 pm.
