Jose Eloy Ybarra, a beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, passed away and entered the Gates of Heaven on December 10, 2023, at 79 years old, leaving a remarkable legacy that everyone who knew him will remember.
Jose was born on April 22, 1944, to Jose and Josefina Barrera Ybarra in Laredo, Texas. He was one of seven children, born to six sisters: Rosaura, Emma, Sara, Ofelia, Susana, and Bertha. Jose is survived by his sisters, Emma and Rosaura. His seven children also survive Jose: Rachel Ybarra, Joseph Ybarra, James Ybarra, Loraine Trevino, Daniel Ybarra, Sarah Gomez, and David Ybarra. Jose had the privilege of witnessing his family continue to grow and was survived by his 15 grandchildren: Victoria, Alyssa, Andrea, Miranda, Kayla, Dominic, Ciarra, Chanel, Bethany, Sophia, Enzo, Noah, David Jr., Elijah, Ezra, and survived by one great-granddaughter, Esmé, and another on the way.
Upon graduating from Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, Texas, Jose joined the military, serving in the United States Army as an Equipment Specialist for almost four years. He was fond of telling friends and family all about his travels to Germany and the rest of Europe throughout the duration of his enlistment. After being Honorably Discharged and returning to the United States, Jose began working in his family's business as one of the first vendors at the Historic Market Square in Downtown San Antonio, Texas, where they specialized in multicultural merchandise and leather goods.
Jose was a tireless worker who believed a man's primary responsibility was to provide for his family, a principle he had lived by from the time he started his first job and continued until the day of his passing. When Jose wasn't working, you could find him at the racetrack, watching baseball, or spending quality time with his family.
He was a loving father and friend, always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need and never expecting anything in return. Jose's profound infinity for his family was evident through his dedicated involvement with his children and grandchildren. Everyone will forever remember his friendly demeanor and distinctive sense of humor.
As we say our goodbyes, we celebrate his legacy, incredible spirit, and lasting impact on our lives. Many knew him as Joe, but to his family, he was and will always be our Papo. Although he could not stay with us forever, our hearts are complete with all the love and beautiful memories our Papo gave us. The family would like to thank Dr. David Sommerhalder and the NEXT Oncology team for their hard work and endless support throughout Jose's battle with cancer.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
