

Joseph F. A. Ormsby, age 87, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Acton, Massachusetts, died peacefully at Colonial Gardens Assisted Living on Wednesday, October 28, 2015. Dr. Ormsby was born October 3, 1928, Troy, N.Y., son of the late Joseph F. Ormsby and Gertrude (Landrigan) Ormsby.
He was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1946, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he received Bachelor and Master degrees in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics. He was a member of Sigma Xi and Tau Beta Pi honorary fraternities. As a Naval Officer he was stationed at the Boston Navy Yard having completed training at the Officer Candidate School, Newport, R.I. in 1955. He received a PhD in 1963 from the University of California, Berkeley, where he authored many scientific and technical publications.
Dr. Ormsby was the husband of the late Elizabeth Maverick Huth Ormsby and former husband of Shirley (Christensen) Ormsby of Acton, MA. He is survived by his children, Lisa Frisby of Groton, MA, Stephen Ormsby of Boxborough, MA, Lauren Pieri of Camden, ME, Christopher Ormsby of Groton, MA, and Gregory Ormsby of Shutesbury, MA; step-daughters, Vienna Emamjomeh and Lisa Sahin of San Antonio; grandchildren, Christian, Keegan, Ryan, Moira, Liam, Colleen, Sam, Annika, Ian and Seneca, and four step-grandsons, Christopher, John, Nader and Kasara.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough.
