Joseph Wesley Reed Jr.

Joseph Wesley Reed was received into his heavenly home Sunday, August 14, 2016. Joe was born in 1928 in Texarkana, TX. He passed away at the age of 88 with his family surrounding him just as he would have wanted. He is survived by his wife of 67 years and his six daughters. He was blessed with ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was honored to serve over 23 years in the service of his country; first in the Navy, then the Marine reserves, and finally in the Army with transportation and logistics. His service began during WWII and included two tours in Vietnam and one in Korea.

Joe was defined by words like integrity, love, and being larger than life but no word defined him more than family. His love of his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids was a natural expression from the once in a lifetime love for his wife, Joan. They planted roots and grew a large family instilled with character and love for each other.

The funeral service will be August 23, 2016 at 12:00 at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 1701 Austin Hwy with interment with full military honors to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital (www.archildrens.org) or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Brookdale Alamo Heights, Hope Hospice and Tracey, Debra, Desiree, Lashonika, Olga, Ader and Hermenia for their compassion and excellent care of Joe in his last days
