

Joseph "Mike" Volmer, beloved son of Lois (nee Braeunig) and the late Robert C. Volmer; husband of Karen (nee Karambis); father of daughters Stefany and Jacquelyn; brother of Robert (Mona) Volmer, Kathleen (John) Brockhaus, Marybeth (Jeff) Ulm, Patricia (Tony) Gibbon, Theresa (Patrick) McCarthy, James (Beth) Volmer, Jeffery Volmer, John (Cindy) Volmer, Anne (Larry) Honigford and Gregory (Heather) Volmer, Mike passed away on Friday, October 2, 2015 just after 5:00 p.m. at the age of 61.
Mike lost his battle with COPD and PTSD. True to Mike's spirit, he was a fighter to the end and leaves a big hole in our hearts and lives. Mike will be remembered fondly by those who loved him to be caring, courageous, wittingly funny at times, and always there to offer advice or lend a hand. After 12 years in Catholic schools, Mike enlisted in the Air Force stationed a LAFB. He was a pharmacy tech at the rank of SGT. at Wilford Hall and Bexar County Hospital. He worked at Bexar County Cable till he was hired by the Postal Service for the next 17 years, starting out at Station A on the Westside then at Henderson Pass Station, where he medically retired.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Interment with Military Honors will follow in Mission Burial Park North. The Volmer family would like to thank Dr. Randall Bell, Dr. Ali, Dr. Danielle Walz, and the staff at Encompass Hospice, Joan, Ernest, Phil and Susie.
