It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Joshua Tyler (“Joshie”) Grothues, a bright and promising young man, who departed this world far too soon. Joshua passed away on October 27, 2023, at the age of 30, leaving a void that cannot be filled in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Born on February 13, 1993, Joshua brought joy and laughter into the lives of those around him from the very beginning. He was the beloved son of Tammy and Jerry Grothues and brother to his sister, Kaitlyn. Joshua's boundless energy, infectious enthusiasm, and radiant smile made him a true source of happiness to his family and friends.
Josh was born in San Antonio, Texas, and grew up in Spring Branch, Texas. He attended Bracken Christian School from kindergarten to 12th grade and continued to Abilene Christian University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with Dual Business Bachelor’s Degrees in Marketing and Management. He was a member of Pi Kappa social club and Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and participated in extracurricular activities such as Sing Song and ACU’s Study Abroad program, spending a semester in Oxford, England. Upon graduating from ACU, Josh moved back to San Antonio where he grew in his marketing career at Gunn Auto Group, The Wood Agency, and Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union.
Fun-loving and adventurous, Josh’s hobbies and interests included hiking, reading, video games, board games, music, Lego, and learning new things. An avid soccer fan, Josh supported his favorite teams, the Portland Thorns and Tottenham Hotspurs, rarely missing a match. As a true San Antonian, he was a die-hard Spurs fan and could regularly be found cheering on his team in the stands. Josh loved nothing more than spending time with his friends and family, whether it was weekly visits with those who lived close-by or weekend stays with those who lived out of town.
Josh’s bright and loving spirit now resides in heaven with his Savior, but will forever be in the hearts of those who loved him.
He is survived by his parents, Tammy and Jerry Grothues; his sister, Kaitlyn (Grothues) Taylor and brother-in-law, Michael Taylor; Maternal Grandmother, “Nana”; and numerous other extended family members and friends.
The family invites family and friends to a visitation on Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Bracken Christian School Gymnasium.
