

She was born in Round Rock, TX to Jose and Josefina Ruiz on April 10, 1944. She graduated from Fox Tech High School in San Antonio. Jaye was married to George Veracruz from 1964 to 1995. She proudly served in the United States Air Force and then worked for the Department of Defense for 28 years.
Jaye enjoyed traveling and experiencing new adventures with Frank Zavala, her beloved companion, they shared a special relationship for over 23 years. Jaye loved the San Antonio Spurs, enjoyed reading, and playing games (Mahjong, Wordscapes, Mexican Train just to name a few). She exercised weekly, spent a lot of time at the senior center and with her coffee club friends.
Jaye’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She leaves behind her three daughters: Barbara Rose, Belinda Brown, and Brenda Downs. Her eight grandchildren: Brittany Teeter, Andrew Gyke, Jordyn Pfenning, Brandon Smith, James Perrin, Tyler Brown, Mya Brown, Chloe Rose and her three great grandchildren: Cayden Gyke, Oliver Pfenning, Augustus Pfenning. Her sisters; Virginia (Felix) Beltran, Angie (Julian) Lopez; Dora Saenz, Helen Lozano, and her brother Jose G. (Stella) Ruiz, and many nieces and nephews.
Jaye was strong mentally, physically and proved resilient as she faced health challenges later in life. Jaye will be mostly remembered for being a loving kind, thoughtful mother, and having a generous heart for all.
Jaye is preceded in death by her mother Josefina Ruiz, her special friend Frank Zavala, and her brother-in-law Roy Lozano.
Rosary and funeral service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 11:00 am at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home. The service will be conducted by Deacon Tim Tate of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1pm. A Reception will immediately follow the committal service at the family home.
