

Joy Flynt Farris was born in Huntsville, Texas, on October 13, 1938 and passed away on April 2, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. She was a very proud sixth generation Texan and was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Flynt, her daughter, Leslea Lynn Fraley Henshaw and her brother, Don Flynt. She is survived by her husband Dr. Richard Donald Farris, daughter, Andrea Elisabeth Farris Caires (John), grandson, Brevin Donald Caires, grandchildren, Devin Delaney and Zachary Louis Fraley, nieces Debra Flynt Cooper (Todd) and Dana Flynt Fletcher (Charles) and nephew, James L. Flynt (Laura). Joy was a very loving, devoted, dependable and caring mother, grandmother, wife and friend and never seemed to meet a stranger. She was very active, sociable and participated in many local and community activities including the Theatre and Arts, served as Co – President of the ladies San Antonio Rotary International Inner- Wheel, a member of the Countryside Garden Club, many military wives clubs, enjoyed as a young person the modeling of fashion clothing and also served at the “Bat Girl” for the San Antonio Missions baseball team. She was generous with her time, love and warmth and had a wonderful sense of humor. Joy was a strong believer, avid supporter and lifelong promoter of the importance of a religious education and consistently emphasized this to her children and grand-children. It is most unique that her name accurately reflects her joyful and gracious lifestyle. Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway San Antonio, Texas Tuesday April 7th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will take place at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church, 308 Mt Calvary Drive on Wednesday April 8th at 11:00 am. Lunch will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Lutheran High School of San Antonio by phone at (210) 694-4962 or by mail at 18104 Babcock Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78255 or Mt Calvary Lutheran Church, 308 Mt Calvary Dr., San Antonio, Tx 78209. The family would like to thank the Methodist Stone Oak Hospital, The Start Center for Cancer Care, The Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio and Gentiva Hospice for the excellent professional care and services provided. Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road San Antonio, Texas 78209 Thursday April 9, 2015 at 1:45pm.
