

JOYDEAN ADAMS
November 16, 1929 – May 30, 2017
Joydean Adams went to be with our Lord on May 30. 2017, after a short illness. She was born on November 16, 1929, in Thrift, TX, to Homer and Christine Dunn. At the age of 9, she lost her Father in an Oil Field accident. She, her widowed mother and brother, Gene, moved to Grand Prairie, TX where she attended School. Upon graduation, she began her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Dallas, TX, as a Telephone Operator. She excelled in various positions and retired as an Executive Manager, in San Antonio.
In 1951, she married Dan Adams. They lived in Grand Prairie until 1962, when Dan, also employed by Southwestern Bell, was transferred to San Antonio where they both continued their careers until Retirement. After Retirement, Joydean started a 10-year career in Real Estates, at Joyce Kline Realty. Her deep sense of Community Service took root early on, and flourished. Her great passion was serving. She enjoyed membership and officer ships in various organizations – Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Children Center Board, Credit Union, American Business Women, Republican Women - a dedicated volunteer. She wanted to make a contribution to Society. She loved having fun too – bowling, golfing, square dancing, playing cards and travel.
As a loving Mother, she had strict values. She taught respect, responsibility and Christian ethics. As one of the first females in San Antonio, she achieved Manager level without a College Degree. She was a very classy, dignified, savvy lady and beautiful, inside and out. She was extremely talented in many other areas - quilting, sewing, cross stitching, stained glass! She was a loving Wife, a Mother and devoted friend to many.
She was member of Shearer Hills Baptist for 55 years. She had a strong Faith-filled relationship with her Lord. She looked at each day as an opportunity to serve. She had a significant impact in her church and community through volunteerism and outreach.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Adams, of Kingsland, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dan Adams, her Mother, Father and Brother.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, June 5, 2017, at Porter Loring Mortuary North. Funeral Service will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, June 6, also at Porter Loring; followed by a reception at Shearer Hills Baptist Church, 2615 San Pedro.
Interment will take place privately at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery, at a later date.
