Julia R. Flores

Julia R. Flores, age 101, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at her home in San Antonio, Texas. She was the youngest of 9 children born on December 17, 1913 in San Diego, Texas to William and Julia (Garza) Rogers. Julia moved to San Antonio at the age of 15 to live with her beloved sister, Natividad R. Trevino, after her parents passed away. In 1939 Julia was happily united in marriage to Rogelio Flores. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Rogelio, and her loving children, Ana Maria (Flores) Hill and Roger A. Flores. Julia took great pride in the achievements of her children.

She was the matriarch of her family-- the last of her generation. She was proud of her extensive family heritage, especially relating to the Rogers' family contributions to Texas annexation and civic service.

Julia is survived by her 5 grandchildren: Marisa (Hill) Tejeda, Andrea Hill, Jennifer (Hill) Robenalt, Roger O. Flores, III, and Mariela (Flores) Lopez; 15 great-grandchildren, Evangelina Flores, Charles Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Julia and her husband owned Mitla Mexican Restaurant until 1974. She then helped her son Roger operate the family's second restaurant, Little Mitla Mexican Restaurant, where she worked until she was 91. She possessed a lifelong passion for food and shared her formidable culinary gifts generously with customers and loved ones. Julia Flores was a woman of deep and unwavering Catholic faith throughout her life. To her family, Julia will always be remembered as a dedicated wife, loving mother, wonderful aunt, and an adoring grandmother. She has had an enormous influence on all of us through her sense of humor, infectious laughter, generosity and kindness. She leaves an enduring legacy which will live on through her family and friends whenever we think of her in the days to come. A generous, sweet and soft spoken soul, Julia will be greatly missed.

On Wednesday, July 8, 2015 the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave.

A funeral procession will depart from Porter Loring Mortuary at 9:30 a.m. to San Francesco Di Paola Catholic Church, 205 Piazza Italia for a service celebrating the life of Julia Flores on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

Interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd.
