

June V. Khym, age 102, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 1, 2018 in San Antonio. She was born on June 28, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois to loving parents, George and Pauline Petersen. June studied ballet, piano, voice and clarinet in High School, where she was a member of the school orchestra. After high school, she attended the University of Illinois where she pledged Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She graduated from Bryant & Stratton Business College and was the Administrative Assistant to the owner of the Chicago Flower Growers Association and later, at the Headquarters of the Great American and Pacific Tea Company. In 1940, she married Franklin Pierce Khym whom she met in the church choir at Windsor Park Evangelical Lutheran Church. She continued working, singing with the Swedish Chorus of Chicago, the Chicago Opera Chorus and the Church choir. In 1945, she retired when her daughter, Georgia was born. In 1946, she moved with her husband to El Paso and Houston when he joined Anderson Clayton Foods. In 1949, she relocated with her husband and daughter to Monterrey, Mexico. After retirement in 1977, she moved to San Antonio and joined her husband on many of his journeys to Third World countries as he was a Consultant assisting with the Foods Division of the World Bank. Always strong in her faith and beliefs, she became a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio. She proudly started the Altar Flower Committee and taught committee members classes in floral design. She was a Founder of KEYS at First Presbyterian Church. She was a life member of the San Antonio Flower Show Judges Council and the Garden Center of San Antonio and Past President of Whispering Oaks Garden Club. She was a member of PEO Chapter Y and past member of Oak Hills C.C. In Monterrey, she was the Founder of the Primavera Garden Club and was Past President of The Women's Club of Monterrey. She sang in the Union Church Choir and the Colony Chorale of Monterrey and was a past member of Club Campestre de Monterrey. In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling, flower arranging, golf, singing and dancing. She is preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters and her husband, Franklin P. Khym. She is survived by her loving daughter, Georgia and her husband, Michael R. Heath. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to The Forum at Lincoln Heights, Shavano Park Assisted Living and Kindred Hospice for their care and kindness.
