This is Veronika Hanson writing to you all...My beloved husband, Justin Andrew Hanson passed away on Monday July 3, 2017 at the age of 34. He was a beloved son, brother, grandson and friend. Justin was a U. S. Army Veteran, but most importantly he was my home, my rock, my soul, my life, my everything and every day I'm struck by this unbearable loss and grief.
In these hard and dark times, I've been receiving tremendous amount of support from all of our friends, his Army family and everyone whose hearts he has ever touched. I appreciate all the help offers I've been getting so I created this fund to help with the funeral arrangements and other financial challenges that I am facing. I understand that there are many of Justin's friends around the country that knew him well that are unable to attend the funeral service but would like to reach out and contribute in his memory.
Justin was born on July 14, 1982 in sunny Sonoma, California. He joined the Army in 2004 where he met his Army brothers whom he always kept close to his heart and soul and whom he always cherished in his memory. He served proudly in Iraq with the 47th FSB 24th Infantry Battalion "Old Ironsides" out of Baumholder, Germany.
And it was in Germany where Justin and I met, fell deeply in love and got married. We shared ten beautiful years together and side by side we walked through life, always holding hands, creating the happiest memories that I am blessed to have shared with him and that I will forever hold on to.
He dedicated his life to many pursuits. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he built his small family business from the ground up with his drive and dedication. It was his baby and he put his whole heart and soul into it.
He also had personal aspirations. He started attending flight school to follow his dream to become a pilot and be able to fly.
He truly enjoyed different and new adventures, including snowboarding, wakeboarding, skydiving, playing soccer with our fur babies, Riley and Lambo, at the park and the lake, watching NHL hockey and rooting for the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins. And in these moments I saw his face light up with happiness and his eyes getting bright like the clear blue sky. He was as happy as a little kid.
And in the quiet moments you could find Justin, my bear, my pumpkin, my Pushistik, my sweetie pie, my baby boy working on his book that he always wanted to publish and writing his thoughts in his journal.
With his gentle, humble and selfless spirit, Justin brought out the best in people. His military brothers describe him as "a man's man", true grit, a brother in arms, and a true friend. Justin encouraged and inspired those around him, and led by example. And to me he is, always was and always will be the love of my life.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Porter Loring North.
