Karen Sue Hertz

Karen was born in San Antonio, Texas to Gene Dykes and Helen Smith on September 30, 1949. She married Michael Hertz on November 2, 1973, in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Mac Arthur High School. She had an exceptional career as a bookkeeper. She was involved in Artistic Angels for several years where she enjoyed participating with her friends in multiple city parades. Karen loved working in the yard as well as caring and playing with her dogs.

Karen is preceded in death by her brother Gene Dykes, his wife Maria Dykes and Karen’s daughter Judith Ann.

Karen is survived by husband, Michael S. Hertz, Sr., sons James Jones and his three children, Michael S. Hertz, Jr., his wife Andrea and their three daughters, her brother Alvin Latham, his wife Mary and their two children, her sister Darlene and her daughter, two grandsons from Judith Ann, and four daughters and their families from Gene and Maria Dykes.

Visitation will be 4 PM Sunday February 22, 2026, funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Monday February 23, 2026, with burial following at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy., San Antonio, Texas 78218.

The family of Michael & Karen wish to extend our sincere thanks to all the wonderful people at Holy Savior Hospice, especially Lindsey who provided unprecedented care for Karen throughout her difficult time, Reta Creswell who was beside her throughout out everything, Darlene Redclift who was there to provide laughter with her and our son Michael Hertz, Jr. who came to be with her.
