

Katharine Frances (McMahon) Gagliardi passed away peacefully on January 22, 2023, at the age of 85. Katharine was born October 4, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas and attended St. Anthony Catholic School, Providence High School, and was a graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology.
She was married to the love of her life, Brigadier General Albert Gagliardi, Jr. for almost 50 years before he passed away in 2011. While married, she faithfully traveled the world while following and supporting her husband in his Air Force career for over thirty years before retiring in San Antonio in 1990. During her lifetime, she supported her husband by serving in the Officer’s Wives Club, as well as volunteering for many charities as well as in her children’s schools. She worked as a speech pathologist in many states including Colorado, Rhode Island, California, Alabama, and Texas including several school districts in the San Antonio area before retiring from East Central I.S.D. In her free time, she was an avid reader and enjoyed baking for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Gagliardi, Jr., her parents, Dr. John McMahon and Katharine McMahon of San Antonio, and three brothers, John L. McMahon, Jr., Michael McMahon and Dennis McMahon.
She is survived by her three children, Michael Gagliardi of Birmingham, AL, Gina DeWall and husband, Marc of Boerne, TX, and Mia Brooksmith and husband, Bryce, of San Antonio as well as six grandchildren, Andrew Gagliardi, Megan Gagliardi-Hilt, Matthew Gagliardi, Eddie DeVane III, Kassie DeVane, and Bryana Brooksmith as well as her brother, Dr. Stephen McMahon and sister-in-law Jodie Leonard McMahon as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses at the Army Residence Community Lakeside Villas and Vitas Hospice for the care and compassion shown to her during her lengthy illness.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation at alzfdn.org or the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org.
Services will be February 21, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 3303 Urban Crest Dr., San Antonio, Texas.
