Kathleen (Kay) P. Cain

The Lord has called our beloved Kathleen McKenna Cain home. Kathleen is survived by her husband, James W. Cain; her son, Dr. Gerard M. Pennington; her daughter, Rosemary Ortiz and her husband Federico; her stepdaughter, Stacy; her stepson, Jay Pennington and his wife Sarah; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Sarah, Matthew, Jessica, and Brianna; her great-granddaughter, Teyla; her sister, Rose Woodruff; and brother-in-law, Jack Engelskirger. Also surviving Kathleen are her six nieces and nephews, their spouses, and many other family members. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husbands, Dr. Gerardo Perez-Gil and Colonel David James Pennington; her sister, Mary M. Engelskirger; and her brother-in-law, Ed Woodruff.

Kathleen enjoyed a full and accomplished life. As a registered nurse and psychotherapist, she was the breath of life for many patients and couples. Kay was joyful, vibrant, loving and compassionate. Her most cherished role was that of a mother and grandmother. She was more proud of her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments than her own. Even though her life had its share of sorrows, there were far more joys. Her faith in God always sustained her.

To celebrate Kay’s life, a Mass of Resurrection will be held on December 9, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., at Saint Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209. A reception will follow at a family residence.

Private graveside services will follow at a later date.
