She was born July 10, 1943 to her mother Myrtle and father Stanley Karger in San Antonio. She graduated from Ursaline Academy in 1962 and never stopped learning. She married Michael Snider in San Antonio on July 5, 1963 and raised two daughters, Ginger and Rebecca.
She served many in her roles in education, from working as a librarian and teacher at St. Pius X, St. Anthony’s, St. Anne’s and teaching as the director at John Calvin Presbyterian Preschool, to taking the family children to local museums and to collect totes of books for summer reading challenges. She respected the great aptitude of the “little bitties” and spent her life enjoying her coffee cold from the time she spent corralling them.
She was a lifelong night owl, reading “one more chapter” by lamplight or doing needlework and sewing Halloween costumes with Turner Classic Movies in the background. She was a giving person. She volunteered at her church, donated books from her collection to young mothers, and kept food and water in her car for the homeless. She always had a peppermint ready to give or a quarter for anyone who would ask and prayed daily for her loved ones. She was giving of her time, and she was giving of her love. She goes on now to join her beloved husband Michael in Heaven.
She is survived by her daughters Ginger (Rodney) and Rebecca; honorary daughter Mary (Curtis); grandchildren Morgan, Chelsea, and Jacob; honorary granddaughter Stephanie; great grandsons Silas (Julianna), Asher, Ezra, and Judah; siblings Michael (Jody) and Patrick (Karen) Karger; honorary sister D’Ann Aicher; brother-in-law Tom (Patti) Snider; sister-in-law Sharon O’Grady; special cousin Nancy Minister; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends; and her valiant protector Toby.
A special thanks to her hospice team, Pastor Stephanie, Lisa, her nurse Audry, Terri, and Linda for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the San Antonio Public Library Foundation at saplf.org.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
