During Ken's college years, he was a part of the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboy Band, playing the trombone. He had the original cowboy band uniform with the chaps and wore them with pride. Following college, he entered the United States Army. He was proud of his honorable services to this country and continued his service with the Army Reserves, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. The majority of Ken’s civilian career was with General Telephone and Electric (GTE), quickly rising within the company to serve on their Think Tank, helping to develop products. After many years at GTE, he retired and started his own consulting business, getting the idea from old coworkers that would still call him with questions or problems.
Ken met Belinda Smart while in Sunday School. They became friends and got married one year later in Belinda's parents' home. Ken and Belinda were inseparable; they both worked at GTE and subsequently together in their consulting business. They were married for nearly 40 years until Belinda's passing in 2014.
Ken will be reunited in heaven with his parents, Warren and Ruth; wife, Belinda; sister, June; and his beloved cats, Gatsby, Daisy, and Khaki.
Ken will always be remembered by his loving children, Kenneth Jr. and his wife Jana, twins Donna, and Diana; brother, Warren "Dub" and his wife Jeannine; grandchildren, Richard and his wife Kortni and their two children (Emalee and Natalee), Nyctasia, and Asher. Ken is also survived by his cat named Chance whom he traveled to Oklahoma City in a blizzard to bring home for adoption.
The family would like any donations to be made out to charities close to his heart: Wounded Warrior, Alzheimer's Association or the American Lung Cancer Association.
Ken's service made him realize the support and care veterans needed after their service. As Ken's disease progressed, his children saw the support families with such terrible disease need and the goal of finding a cure.
