On February 24, 1958, Kevin Wayne Hill was born to the late Albert Hill, Sr., and Nancy Jane Barker Hill in San Antonio Texas. Kevin was the fifth of six children, raised in a rich tradition of unity, love, and support. To the public he was known as “Kevin”, to his friends and family, he was known as “Wayne”.
Kevin received his formal education in the San Antonio Independent School District, graduating from Sam Houston High School in 1976. Prior to graduation, Kevin committed himself to the United States military.
On July 22, 1976, Kevin enlisted into the United States Air Force as an airman. He proudly served as an airman in the United States Air Force from 1976 to 1988.While stationed at Lackland AFB, Kevin quickly moved through the ranks, at one point, supervising more than twenty-five ancillary personnel, and more than ten Department of Defense civilians. Some of Kevin’s “charge positions” included, orthopedics, oral surgery, nursery, EENT, and nursing education. He also did a one-year tour at Regional Hospital RAF Lakenheath, UK (1979-1980).
While serving his country, Kevin went on to matriculate at St Philp’s College - San Antonio, and The University of Texas Health Science Center - San Antonio, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (1988). He later went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Master of Business Administration in healthcare management at the University of Phoenix. Kevin also earned nine hours of post graduate work towards his Doctor of Business Administration.
After receiving his degree in nursing, Kevin was commissioned, 2nd Lieutenant, in the USAF Nurse Corps. As a newly commissioned officer, his first assignment was at Wright Patterson Medical Center, located at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio; where he worked in the orthopedics unit for two years. Kevin served as a commissioned corps officer, until his retirement in January 1997, honorably discharged as Captain Kevin Wayne Hill Sr.
Immediately following his retirement, Kevin was hired by General Dynamics Information Technology, where he served as the Tri-regional Technical Director, retiring in 2015.
Kevin was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his three sons Kevin II, Kristopher and Kyle. Prouder than most, Kevin loved being a father, taking great pride in showing his sons to the world, while showing the world to his sons. The love for his sons was immeasurable. Kevin and his sons enjoyed going to the movies and live events. From football games to, to basketball games, monster truck shows, and professional wrestling. He always emphasized the importance of education to his sons. Dabbling in the world of entrepreneurship, Kevin started a small business under the name of “Gumballs and Etcetera”, where he brokered deals with other small businesses, placing vending machines in their stores. He had several (3 to 4) vending machines strategically placed next to the arcade machines inside of “Purple Cactus Comics”. Almost every weekend, he would take his sons to empty and restock the vending machines; teaching them the importance of relationships and business, in the funnest manner possible.
Family gatherings were a constant house full of love, laughter, and delight. He will always be remembered by his joyous and almost permanent smile. With his trademark mustache and smile, Wayne’s happiness is a highly radiant frequency that will be felt eternally. He was always very active and eager to help others. No matter what, Wayne consistently made sure his mother and others were well. One of his fondest memories was going to the drive-in movies as a child.
In addition to his career accomplishments, Kevin had several passionate interests which included “mesquite” barbequing, painting, photography and fishing. Wayne would always talk about the fishing trips he took with his father, Albert Sr. He had a deep love for all types of automobiles, particularly Cadillac. With a sharp mind and style, he was always ready to take a ride. He loved to dress well. Kevin enjoyed cooking, and was highly skilled in various methods, always looking for new recipes to try. Wayne will be famously remembered for his signature “Prime Rib”, which was quickly devoured by all attendees on Christmas Day. Two of his most favorite foods were tamales and cheese enchiladas. He liked trying enchiladas from restaurants all across San Antonio.
Kevin was a devoted sports fan. He had a deep passion for any Texas Longhorns’ sporting event. From the Dallas Cowboys, to the San Antonio Spurs, Wayne rarely missed a game. Wayne loved to play baseball in his youth and was an avid fan throughout his adulthood, constantly texting his cousin Sheila about the Texas Rangers.
