

Kum Cha Hink, aged 82, of Garden Ridge, Texas, passed away at her home on September 9, 2025, following a lengthy and courageous battle with congestive heart failure. Throughout her final days, she was surrounded by her loving family, drawing comfort from their presence and the strong bonds of love they shared. Kum Cha will be fondly remembered for her unwavering strength, generous heart, and the warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
Born in Seoul, Korea, on April 22, 1943, Kum Cha was the daughter of Pong Sam Kim (father) and Po Hyong An (mother). She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Ewha Women’s University in Seoul. During her college years, Kum Cha was actively involved in a variety of activities, including music, ballet, tennis, and equestrian pursuits. She also achieved the remarkable accomplishment of obtaining her glider pilot license.
On September 5, 1969, Kum Cha married Charles Hink in Seoul. Together, they began a journey that took them around the world. The couple initially lived in Marina de Pisa, Italy, and later in Taipei, Taiwan, where their daughter Teresa was born. They then returned to Seoul, Korea, where their son Thomas joined the family. As a dedicated military spouse, Kum Cha played a central role in creating a loving and supportive home for her family as they relocated to various places, including Italy, Taiwan, Germany, Korea, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
Kum Cha is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles Hink; her daughter, Teresa Fontenot of Garden Ridge, Texas, along with son-in-law JD and granddaughter Victoria; her son, Thomas Hink of Gainesville, Virginia, with daughter-in-law Sunny and grandsons Konnor and Liam; and her cherished Shih Tzu, Teddy.
A visitation for Kum Cha will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. The funeral service will follow from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM at the same location. A committal service will take place from 10:45 AM to 11:15 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
