Kurt was born in the Northeast and moved to the Dallas area with his family when he was in elementary school. After high school, Kurt joined the Airforce and served as a radar specialist in the bitter cold in the Great Lakes area and finally at McChord AFB in Washington state. He put himself through school and graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1983. He became an Oracle Data Base Analyst and worked at Randolph Air Force Base prior to retiring.
Kurt was an incredibly caring gentleman and the rock of his family. He was a devoted son, caring for his parents, Denver and Betty Cearley, until their death in their nineties. He would say “Happy wife, happy life” and genuinely lived this expression.
Kurt was a lifelong learner and there was no end to his talents. He was an amazing stained-glass artist, furniture maker, gardener and chef. He was a connoisseur of food and drink. He spoiled us all with his home-grown tomatoes, smoked chicken enchiladas, grilled meats and crème brule. Dinners, birthdays, and holidays will never be the same without him.
He always trusted God’s plan and found comfort in prayer. Kurt is survived by his wife, Valerie Cearley, daughters, Lily Moore and Sydney Hamner, son-in-law, Matthew Hamner, and his new grandson, Philip Hamner.
Kurt, you will be missed. Your memory and the impact you had on our lives will shine on until we see your face again in Heaven.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2025, at 10:30am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209
